1. Introduce yourself after class and ask questions; ask for some good book titles in the field of study.
2. Drop by during office hours at least once.
3. Ask about career opportunities in the field.  A good question to ask –

What are some best ways to get a career off the ground?

4.  Ask about current issues and controversies in the field.

When a student goes beyond just  being a lecture listener, teachers are delighted.  They love talking about their subject.

This you should NOT do:

Don’t even think about “buttering up” a professor/teacher.  It is safe to assume a teacher might be pretty bright and quite capable of spotting a phony.
