Do You Remember Your Junior Senior Banquet?
Every year, the hands-down much anticipated event at this private school is the Junior Senior Banquet, or better known as JSB.
JSB began in the 1940’s here at Canyonville Christian Academy. Back then it was called Canyonville Bible Academy. Yet the Junior Senior Banquet was and continues to be a dressy evening out full of activities for the upper class-men (Juniors and Seniors). The tradition is that the Junior class takes the Senior class out for a fun-filled evening.
Activities on a JSB night have ranged from dinner out at a nice restaurant several hours ride from Canyonville, a movie, or roller-skating, sometimes ice-skating in the middle of the night, put-put golf fun, family fun center, sometimes bowling. There have been scavenger hunts held in other cities, limousine rides, early breakfasts out after a night of fun and more.
Preparing
The girls look at dresses for weeks ahead of the Junior Senior Banquet, some have looked for months! Then they hold their breath waiting to see if they will get their dress approved or not. Once approved, then the serious planning begins – how to do their hair, what shoes to wear, makeup, evening wear.. will it be cooler, or raining.. what other clothes to bring and on and on it goes.
The younger classmates, such as the freshman and sophomore classes dream of their turn to plan, prepare, hear their name announced, to walk out of the front doors of Hinn Hall, to be greeted and escorted out by a special someone. Oh, the excitement, the planning, and finally the big day arrives!
Excitement
The day arrives when young ladies are beautifully dressed up, excited and nervous for when their name is announced, and they walk out to the words of “requested the presence of” by a Junior or Senior gentleman who walks up the stairs to escort them out of Hinn Hall. Some friends choose to walk out together, escorting each other. All walk out with smiles and gorgeous dresses.
The gentlemen are all dressed in suits – ties and corsages. Some have even worn top-hats. All adds to the fun of the evening.
After everyone has been announced and walked out, they then gather for a large group photo and the evening of fun begins!
