Alumni of the Year
Honored at the annual alumni banquet on May 28th were co-recipients of the “Alumnus of the year” award:
David Johnston ’61 founder and president of Wesley Institute, a college of arts and ministry in Sydney, Australia. David worked with Ed Smelser’s organization (Bridges for Peace) for 15 years as the director of music for the Jerusalem celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. A noted concert violinist and conductor, few would argue with David being named CCA’s best ever instumental musician.
Rose Gilbert Peebles ’72 national high school record holder in the pentathlon. She was a state champion in track and cross country nine times while a CCA student, held nine state individual and realy track records, some still standing. Rose competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials (pentathlon) in 1972, the summer after she graduated and was featured in Sports Illustrated magazine for her accomplishments while at CCA.
